The International Society for Delphiniums
A Registered Charity No: 259202
The Delphinium Society was founded in 1928, at a time when there were some forty nurserymen actively involved in the commercial growing of delphiniums. The first show in 1929 was indicative of that fact; the commercial exhibition far exceeded the number of exhibits provided by the private growers.
In 2007, when this introduction was written, all our exhibitions were provided by the private growers who are members of our Society. Much of the history of our Society has involved the
Royal Horticultural Society
. Up to the mid 1990s our shows were nearly all staged either at the RHS Halls at Vincent Square or else in the Hillside Events Centre at the RHS Garden, Wisley. Promotional work since 1993 has progressively developed new locations for exhibitions, either by partnership with various affiliated societies or through formation of incorporated regional groups in the Society.
Although shows are an important part of our work - we regard them as being a principal means of promotion and publicity - we appreciate the membership of those who are not exhibitors but who wish to contribute to the work of the Society in other ways. Whatever your interest, we would welcome you to membership.
We are the international society for the flower, thereby embracing all countries of the UK, and we hope that by viewing this web-site you will want to join our Society.
Welcome to the pages of our web-sites. Please note that the pages you are now reading are directed principally at our
Scottish Members
and are included in their own Delphinium Society web-site which you have just accessed (www.delphinium-society.co.uk). This is to make adequate provision for future developments. However, these pages are part of The Delphinium Society's general provision of information about the Society and all Members are invited to browse through them.
